Gout treatment (Part 3)
Low level laser treatment
Laser therapy is used to produce focused beams of light. This treatment heals the tissue and reduces pain, inflammation and swelling. This method is often used for skin diseases and open wounds. Laser therapy is used to treat inflammatory problems such as gout and severe ligament strain such as the ankle and groin. It also helps to remove scar tissue (scars) and dead cells after surgery.
Treatment of joint damage caused by gout
If gout causes injury to the joint, treatments similar to arthritis treatments are recommended:
- • You should lose weight if overweight.
- • You should exercise daily (both muscle strengthening exercises and general aerobic exercises).
- • You should reduce pressure on injured joints (for example, work and walk slowly and wear appropriate shoes)
- • Use of analgesics (eg paracetamol and codeine)
- • Use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
- • Use anti-inflammatory creams and gels
- • Use topical creams capsaicin (pepper)
- • Asteroid injection in a painful joint
- • Surgery involves joint replacement
Other methods of reducing blood urate include:
- • Weight loss if you are overweight or obese.
- • Avoid eating foods that are high in purines.
- • Do not drink too much alcohol
- • Drink enough water
- • Doing exercises that are very useful for moving the joints.
If you have a metabolic syndrome (high blood pressure, high blood fats and diabetes), controlling these conditions is effective in lowering blood urate levels.
Suitable diet for treating gout
Eating certain foods should be limited if you have gout, such as high-fructose corn syrup, which increases uric acid production; And it is harmful for the treatment of gout, also alcohol consumption should be reduced. You should reduce purine consumption in your diet, as 90% of purine is already produced in the body.
Foods high in purine, which should be avoided include:
- Bacon
- Turkey
- Oily fish
- Beer
- Yeast and yeast extracts (such as marmite)

Gout treatment (Part 2)
Treatment of Gout consists ofHome treatment for Gout Although medication for gout is the most effective of all treatments, the following guidelines are recommended by the American Dietetic Association (ADA) for when you are under gout attack. two stages:
- 1. Drink about 2 to 4 litres of fluid, preferably water every day
- 2. Avoid alcohol
- 3. Make sure you have a moderate protein intake, especially from healthy sources, such as low-fat or fat-free dairy products, eggs and peanut butter.
- 4. Keep your daily intake of red meat, chicken and fish at 113 to 170 grams
Common exercises to treat gout : Regular exercise reduces symptoms of gout and even prevents its occurrence.
Exercise should not be too intense and strenuous, because strenuous exercise increases symptoms.
Massage and stretching exercises help maintain joint flexibility and prevent joint stiffness.
Place a bar under your foot and roll it. Repeat this exercise 2 times a day, 5 to 10 times each time.
Picking up a towel or cloth with your toes: This movement strengthens the flexor muscles of the toes. Spread a towel flat, put your foot on it. Now fold the towel under your feet with your fingers. Repeat this exercise 2 times a day, 5 to 10 times each time. Hold your toe with both hands so that the fingers of both hands are under the toe and the thumbs of both hands are on the back surface of the toe. Apply a little pressure to the foot with the hand and pull the hand out in the opposite direction so that the head of the metatarsals moves apart like a fan that opens. Repeat this 5-10 times. Massage between the toes in a circular motion with the thumbs of both hands.
Massage the toe in a circular motion with both hands.
Treatment of gout has two main aspects:
- Treatment of an acute inflammatory attack when one or more joints become very swollen and painful. Complementary treatment to reduce blood urate levels and excrete urate crystals.
- Treatment of acute gout by ice : Putting an ice pack on the affected area cures gout and reduces swelling, heat and pain from an acute gout attack. Resting the painful joint :
- Resting the painful joint also reduces the pain of an acute gout attack.

Gout treatment (Part 1)
Treatment of Gout consists of two stages:
In the first stage, we should try to reduce the patient's acute attack (that is, the pain and joint inflammation, and the next step is to prevent the subsequent attacks)
The following measures are used to reduce pain and inflammation:
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) - These include drugs such as ibuprofen, naproxen, or more potent medications that require a doctor's prescription, such as indomethacin, which relieves pain caused by the attack of gout and is usually easily treated with oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Colchicine - This is made from saffron, and although it is not an analgesic, it is very useful for treating inflammation caused by the crystals hitting the joint and treating gout. If NSAIDs are not prescribed for you, your doctor will use colchicine .
Corticosteroids - Your doctor may use corticosteroids to reduce gain pain in inflammation, which are given in both oral and injectable forms. In long-term treatment, the goal is to reduce the body's uric acid in order to reduce the likelihood of further acute attacks. The following steps are taken in this regard.
Treatments to reduce urate :
- Medications prescribed to reduce the pain of an acute gout attack remove urate crystals from the joints but do not lower blood urate levels.
- Allopurinol: Allopurinol is the most common drug that lowers blood urate levels. This drug reduces the production of urate in the body and is usually used once a day.
- Pheboxostat: Pheboxostat is the newest drug introduced to reduce urate production in the body. Unlike allopurinol, it decomposes phoboxostat urate in the liver; Therefore, it is very useful for people who have kidney problems and can not consume large amounts of allopurinol.
- Uricosuric drugs (pyrazone sulfine, benzobromarone, and probenecid) help excrete more urate through the kidneys. These drugs are not suitable for people with kidney stones or similar disorders.
- Taking drugs that cause better excretion of uric acid in the urine, such as probenecid, or drugs that reduce its production in the body, such as allopurinol.

Diagnosis of gout
Diagnosis of gout is usually made by observing gout_attacks. In this case, one joint of the body is usually involved and the simultaneous involvement of several joints is less like the condition seen in rheumatism.
Tests that are used to diagnose_generation include: Joint fluid tests The most important test used to diagnose this disease is a joint fluid test.
The joint fluid is removed from the joint by a doctor with a needle and sent to a laboratory. In gout, the uric acid content of this fluid is higher than normal.Because Joint_infection can also cause gout-like symptoms, your doctor can look for bacterial agents when testing your joint fluids to control the bacterial cause, if any. Fluids may need to be sent to a laboratory, in which case the analysis may take several days.
Blood testsYour doctor may order a blood test to check the level of uric acid in your blood. Note that some people, despite having high uric acid, never get gout, and some people get it even though they have normal uric acid.
RadiographsSometimes plain radiographs are used to help diagnose gout. Plain radiographs may show tufts of accumulation around the joints or joint destruction.
Gout_disease is more common in specific people who :
- • Consume high protein foods and seafood Excessive alcohol consumption Taking certain medications such as aspirin, B vitamins, diuretics and chemotherapy drugs
- • Overweight or obese
- • Have high blood pressure Have some diseases such as leukemia and lymphoma
- Inflammation
The following factors may increase the severity of acute attacks of gout:
- • Dehydration
- • Impact on the joint
- • Fever
- • Eat a lot of food
- • Excessive alcohol consumption
- • surgery
